DOMINICAN REPUBLIC JARABACOA

WORLD’S FINEST COFFEES NO. 6

Exclusive highland coffee from the heart of the Caribbean

THE PLACE THAT CAPTIVATED COLUMBUS
The Dominican Republic is situated in the Caribbean Sea and shares the island of Hispaniola with its neighbour Haiti. When Columbus discovered the island in 1492, he described it as the most beautiful place that human eyes have seen. The stunning beaches, lush green landscapes, imposing waterfalls and the large variety of exotic fruits are testament to how Columbus came to this conclusion. The island is home to numerous national parks with an impressive range of flora and fauna – over 800 different plant species are native to the Caribbean island. The Dominican people are known for their warmth, love of life, hospitality and strong family ties.
ORGANIC COFFEE FROM THE HEART OF THE CARIBBEAN
Jarabacoa is the second largest municipality in La Vega Province and is situated in the heart of the Caribbean island. The landscape is dotted with numerous rivers, waterfalls and mountains. The Arabica coffee plants used to produce our World's Finest Coffees No. 6 thrive on the central mountain range of Jarabacoa at 800 to 1,500 metres above sea level. They are grown organically and sustainably by the Ramírez family over an area of just 350 hectares. The coffee cherries are picked exclusively by hand to ensure that only the ripe and undamaged fruits are used. The pulp is removed and the beans are dried on the same day. This processing method produces the unique taste profile of this highland coffee.
A LAND OF PIRATES AND A UNIQUE TREASURE
The Caribbean has been known for its precious treasures since long before "The Pirates of the Caribbean" films. The history of the Dominican Republic has been shaped by piracy. Today, the island offers a number of adventure activities that allow tourists to experience what it's like to be a pirate. In addition to coffee, the Dominican Republic is also home to other natural treasures such as gold, silver, cocoa and amber. However, there is one treasure that is particularly unique: a type of gemstone known as larimar. Its unique white-blue hue resembles the colour of the Caribbean Sea. Also known as Atlantis Stone, the rare gemstone is one of the national symbols of the Dominican Republic and is popular worldwide for its use in jewellery and charm stones.
TRADITIONAL DANCE
When Aventura took the international charts by storm in 2002 with their song "Obsesión", Bachata (a music and dance genre) became world famous. If this doesn't ring any bells, here's a quick reminder. Bachata originated in the Dominican Republic in the first half of the 20th century. Bachata typically features five instruments: two classical guitars, a bass, bongos and a güira. The dance moves are just as rhythmical and sensual as the music. In the Dominican Republic, Bachata is characterised by a tight embrace and strong hip movements, whereas Western interpretations of the genre tend to feature a more open position with dance figures.

About this coffee

Origin

Our Caturra Arabica coffee is grown organically in the heart of the Dominican Republic. The coffee cherries thrive in the high mountains around Jarabacoa at altitudes of 800 to 1500 m above sea level. The local conditions, the coffee variety and the wet processing method produce a full-bodied flavour profile.

Product Declaration

Roasting

The dark roast unlocks the unique Caturra aromas from the Arabica beans, while the medium-fine ground ensures that the coffee is neither too acidic nor bitter and produces a well-rounded flavour profile. Preparing it as an espresso best accentuates the subtle aroma nuances of this exclusive highland coffee.

Flavour

The Caturra Arabica variety and the region of origin are instantly recognisable in the unique aroma. Flavours of dark chocolate and tobacco are harmoniously complemented by notes of black pepper and raisins and a very low acidity. It also features a full, heavy body that provides an intensive, long-lasting coffee aroma.
